SARATOGA RACE COURSE, MONDAY, JUNE 29, 2009:

Ladies and gentlemen, I told you last week how excited I was to be racing in the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park, a chapter in the legacy of so many of my filly heroines. This week, I am so honored to announce that I, Rachel Alexandra, have added the Mother Goose Stakes to my repertoire!

It was a tiny field of three this time around, and what a vaulting pace the very talented duo of Malibu Prayer and Flashing set. But once my jockey Calvin Borel let me go, away I flew with verve! I had a 19 ¼ length cushion when I skipped across the finish line, giving me room to ease up a bit and sashay back home. I'm proud to say that I broke the stakes record, and the margin of victory record as well!

I also told you last week that Saturday was going to be fabulous filly day coast to coast, and what a day it was: just as I was offering my curtain call curtseys to thundering applause from the incredible racing fans at Belmont Park after the Mother Goose (adorned in a gorgeous blanket of pink carnations!), Zenyatta was running a huge race in Southern California. Congratulations to her on a big win against a talented field. I hope we made it a great Saturday for racing fans from one end of the country to the other!

I was whisked away from Long Island early on Sunday morning, and I'm writing to you now from a wonderfully cool and crisp Saratoga Springs, NY. Just as I was at Belmont, I'm tucked away in the same stall formerly occupied by Curlin here at Saratoga Race Course - and I can already feel the crackling energy! I can only hope that one day another horse is excited to be in the stall formerly occupied...by Rachel!

It is nice here - cool, beautiful, and quiet because the opening of the meet is still a month away. My stall has a window through which I like to gaze while I muse.

I'm still relaxing after a week full of travel and the big race, but I am grateful to be here in Saratoga. I can't wait to learn more about this deeply historic track and the wonderful people here - and to tell you all about it! It will be awhile before I know where I will race again, my connections will think that over very carefully, but even if it isn't right here at this track, it is an exceptional place to call home for now.

They call Saratoga "The Spa" because of its unique mineral springs, so if anybody asks, you just tell them that Rachel Alexandra has decided to summer at the Spa. It sure sounds lovely to me.
